Who Is The Family Heart Risk Assessment For?

This assessment is designed particularly for people who

  • have a parent or sibling who experienced a heart attach, coronary heart disease or stroke unusually early in life

  • have several relatives affected by cardiovascular disease

  • have been told they have high cholesterol but are unsure what it means in the context of their family history

  • are approaching the age at which a parent or sibling developed heart disease

  • know that high lipoprotein(a) or Lp(a) runs in their family

  • want to identify important cardiovascular risks before symptoms develop

  • want a clear, medically led prevention plan rather than simply another set of tests results

You do not need to have symptoms to take cardiovascular risk seriously.

A family history of early cardiovascular disease can sometimes point towards risk factors that deserve earlier or more detailed assessment.

What Is A Family Heart Risk Assessment?

If your father had a heart attack at 52, or your sister developed cardiovascular disease unexpectedly young, it is reasonable to ask:

"Could the same thing happen to me?"

There is rarely a single test that answers that question.

Cardiovascular risk can arise from a combination of genetics, cholesterol and other lipoproteins, blood pressure, metabolic health, smoking, lifestyle and other medical factors.

Some important risk factors, including familial hypercholesterolaemia and elevated Lipoprotein(a), can run through families.

The Family Heart Risk Assessment brings these pieces together.

We start with the event that happened in your family, assess what it may mean for you, investigate the risk factors that are relevant to your circumstances and develop a personalised strategy for reducing the risks that can be changed.

Where your results suggest that another family member should also seek assessment, we can help you understand what they may need to discuss with their own doctor.

The objective is not to perform every cardiac test available.

It is to identify the right risks, the right tests and the right next steps for you.

What Does the Assessment Include?

Detailed Family Heart Hisory

We explore your full personal and family history, identifying patterns and building a structured picture of cardiovascular disease across your family.

Advanced Cardiovascular Blood Testing

Testing is personalised but may include markers such as:

  •  total, LDL and HDL cholesterol

  • triglycerides

  • ApoB

  • Lipoprotein(a)

  • Blood glucose and HbA1c

  • Kidney and liver function

  • additional markers where clinically appropriate

Cardiovascular Risk Assessment

Your doctor brings together your history, physical assessment, body composition, cholesterol and lipoproteins, metabolic health, physical activity, diet, existing medical conditions and medications to build a more complete picture of your cardiovascular risk

Personalised Prevention Plan

You'll receive a clear plan explaining:

  • what we have identified

  • which findings matter most

  • what can be chaned

  • lifestyle priorities

  • whether medication should be considered

  • whether further investigation is justified

  • what should be monitored over time

Further Testing When It Adds Value

Some people may benefit from additional investigation, such as imaging, genetic testing or specialist cardiology assessment. â€‹These are not automatically included.

Your doctor will explain when additional testing is likely to provide useful information and when it is unlikely to change management

A Plan for Your Family

Where your results or family history suggest that parents, siblings or children may also benefit from assessment, we will explain who may need to take action and what they should discuss with their own healthcare professional.

Why a Family Heart Risk Assessment At Everhealth Is Different

We Start With Your Family Story, Not a Standard Health-Check Package

There are many ways to have your cholesterol measured or purchase a private heart-health check.

The more difficult question is:

What do those results mean for you, given what happened in your family?

Everhealth takes a different approach.

We start by understanding the pattern of cardiovascular disease across your family and use this to decide which risks deserve closer attention.

That might mean looking beyond standard cholesterol to measures such as ApoB or Lipoprotein(a).

It might mean investigating unusually high cholesterol for familial hypercholesterolaemia.

It may mean paying closer attention to blood pressure, metabolic health or lifestyle.

And occasionally, it may mean recommending imaging, genetic testing or specialist cardiology assessment.

But more testing is not automatically better.

The aim is to identify the information that is most likely to change what you do next.

You leave with a prioritised cardiovascular prevention strategy, rather than simply a collection of results.

What To Expect

1. Complete your family and medical history

After booking, you will receive a detailed online assessment covering your own health, lifestyle and cardiovascular history, together with heart disease and stroke within your immediate family.

2. Meet with an Everhealth doctor

During a 30-minute consultation, we review your family history, personal risk factors, blood pressure and relevant medical history.

We then agree the investigations most appropriate for you.

3. Complete your blood tests

Your core cardiovascular and metabolic blood testing will be arranged.

Additional investigations are only recommended where there is a clinical reason for doing them.

4. Receive your personalised Family Heart Risk Report

Your results are interpreted in the context of your family history rather than viewed as isolated numbers.

You receive a clear summary of the important findings, what they mean and your priorities for prevention.

5. Review your results with your doctor

A short follow-up consultation is used to answer questions and agree next steps.

These may include lifestyle changes, treatment, monitoring, further investigation or onward referral.

6. Know what your family should do next

Where appropriate, we also explain whether other first-degree relatives may benefit from discussing screening or assessment with their own healthcare professional.
